Russian GDP grows by 4.0% in Jan-Aug MOSCOW. Sept 24 (Interfax) - Russia's GDP grew by 4.0% in January- August 2002, as compared to the same period in 2001.

This information is contained in a review of Russian socioeconomic development in January-August 2002, and outlooks for the rest of the year, which is available at the website of the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.

In August 2002, Russia's GDP exceeded the level of August 2001 by 3.3%, and in July by 5.5%. In January-August 2001, GDP grew by 5.3% against the same period in 2000, and in August 2001, by 6.5%.

Industrial production in the first eight months of this year increased by 3.8%, and investments in fixed capital by 2.4%.

Consumer prices grew by 9.9% in January-August 2002, and producer prices by 12.4%.

The growth of the money supply in January-August 2002 was 10.8%, against 16.3% in the same period last year. RTS$#&:
