Iran's Guardians Council rejects full divorce rights for women Agence France-Presse Tehran, September 28
A conservative-controlled constitutional watchdog has rejected a bill passed by the Iranian parliament giving women full divorce rights, the state news agency IRNA said on Saturday.
The Guardians Council said the reformist-dominated parliament's changes to Iran's civil code, giving women the full right to file for a divorce before a civil court, were "contrary to Islam".
