CB: They may not actually worship power.  Since the Americans have been 
recently savagely murdering people there, these people may be faking a 
welcome to try to avoid being killed. They are at the mercy of the American 
invaders. Many victims of conquest throughout history have been able to put 
on a "masK" of praise for their masters in order to survive.
