"Frankly, except for financial compensation, I'd rather get letters to the editor published in the Indianapolis Star, conservative daily rag owned by the family of former VP Dan Quayle which somehow saw fit to publish several of my missives during the time I lived in IN."
When I lived in Indy (my birthplace), I used to write letters under the name David Standifer, who attacked the Star from the right. Standifer was crazy -- he thought there was a pro-commie angle to a photo collage the Star ran about children in Cuba, where one of the pix showed a Cuban girl smiling and eating ice cream. "As any freedom-loving American knows," wrote Standifer, "children in Cuba do not smile, and they certainly don't get ice cream, unless they turn their parents over to the Communist Party for re-education." And Standifer's letters were always the first ones on the page. They ran maybe 5 or 6, till I got bored and retired him.
