It's a matter of state law. Some states have no fault divorce, which, as Kelly says, doesn't necessarily mean no _grounds_, just that stating the grounds doesn't create further legal effects that bear on, e.g. custody or property divisions. Some states don't have no fault divorce.

I am not a specialist on family law, though, never even took a course in it, though I( have read a few books. I prefer a nice peaceful practice like criminal defense and high stakes civil litigation where there are only billions at risk. Family law is too exciting for me. And the murderers I defend have already committed their crimes, they don't want to kill anyone else. Mostly they are really sorry they did. jks
