[lbo-talk] a third-world grid

Interesting that the higher-grade news media, at least, are emphasizing
that one background cause of the great blackout was inadequate spending
on maintaining the infrastructure (and this applies to other parts of
the country's infrastructure besides the electrical grid), that private
corporations have not seen a profit incentive to spend on infrastructure
maintenance, and that the government needs to play a bigger role.
In short, is the idea of (gasp!) socialism beginning to rear its "ugly"
head once again in this "land of the free (enterprise)"? And will
Americans begin to get the idea that public (government) funding might
be needed in some other fields -- such as health care?
