No fooling! I lived on the upper west side for years, and never owned a car until I was in my 30s. Didn't need one, and didn't miss having one. I had a license once but let it lapse. When I moved back to Wisconsin I had to get a license again, and my, did I take a lot of ribbing from people here about taking the road test at my advanced age. For a young, able-bodied guy who's not severely retarded not to have a license was just beyond peculiar. Now I drive a pickup truck and spend an inordinate amount of time cruising down rural highways at 70mph, which I suppose shows that you can adapt to anything. Still miss the Broadway local, though.
