Howard Dean, Conspiracy Theorist James Taranto in his Best of the Web Today over at OpinionJournal.com brings to our attention this little snippet from the Dr. of Disaster:
"Caller: Once we get you in the White House, would you please make sure that there is a thorough investigation of 9/11, and not stonewall it?
Dean: Yes. There is a report, which the president is suppressing evidence for, which is a thorough investigation of 9/11.
Rehm: Why do you think he's suppressing that report?
Dean: I don't know. There are many theories about it. The most interesting theory that I've heard so far--which is nothing more than a theory, it can't be proved--is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now who knows what the real situation is? But the trouble is, by suppressing that kind of information, you lead to those kinds of theories, whether they have any truth to them or not. And eventually they get repeated as fact. So I think the president is taking a great risk by suppressing the key information that should go to the Kean commission. "
So, there ya have it - Dean is propagating a hate-Bush, anti-American conspiracy theory. This sort of theory, it should be pointed out, was first spun by the apologists for terrorists shortly after 9/11. I remember them clearly - the one theory, of course, was that the Israeli Mossad did it, with the Jews of New York being warned to make themselves scarce on the deadly day - the other theory was that President Bush knew it was coming and allowed it to happen so that he could reap political benefit from the resultant war.
Needless to say, such sick theories have no place in rational discussion - but they apparantly have a place in Dean's heart. Taranto, in his report on the interview, points out that if a GOP Presidential candidate back in 1996 had said "The Clinton's may have murdered Vince Foster....but its only a theory", then the media would have (rightly) jumped all over them. So degraded have the Democrats become, and so expectant we all are of their degradation, that a remark like Dean's here raises nary an eyebrow.
Democrats - honestly, you really need to do something to take back your party from the kooks like Dean. We GOPers want to win, and want to win big - but its better when both major parties have serious things to say.
