I dont know. What does that mean that he "had servants"? Put that way, it sounds like he was a plantation owner or a citizen of the ancient athenian polis? Or does it mean he had someone over to his house once a week to clean?

"Haute bourgeois table manners?" By American standards that would be true of just about any continental european. Go to any Italian household, no matter how humble, and you will see the ritual of peeling fruit...even grapes, at the end of the meal.
