i was discussing with my wife yesterday morning after reading the papers
about the demos. she was very impressed, indeed the cover page of
akahata had a picture of a very dense crowed in london with pretty much
everybody carrying signs "stop the war" or "don't attack irak", with a
list of capital cities and the nb of demonstrators. chances are the
sheer nb will be a factor in the next few weeks. but what about after ?
i read somewhere that this week end demo had been planned at the time of
the european social forum, is there a chance that the sf has a (more or
less) concrete peace agenda for the middle east ? or is it only smart
organizing that will only last until bush gives up ?
afaik, the un is only composed of "nations", which means that a un lead
peace process can eventually be analysed in terms of conflicting
national interests. how can citizen group get legitimacy in the
discussions that could lead to a real peace process ?
