Self-determination (the race to the bottom)

It seems to me that in societies which are already close to the "bottom",
globalisation is more like an "upward drift". Of course this phenomenon is
usually self-negating: workers realise their bargaining power, wages and
conditions improve, capital flees and the cycle begins again, somewhere
else. But in the very long run there are only so many lines of flight...
