It's "what can I do about my life?" (and the answer is always some variant of "throw myself back out on the labor market") vs. "what can we do about our lives?" - an off-limits area of discussion.
As far as little sheep waiting for a handout, it's hard to act otherwise when you've been made to graze your whole life. I try to keep the focus on the purveyors of the Horatio Alger ideology that permeates American culture and not let it develop into contempt for the victims of it.
