[fwd Brian Sheppard. January 14, 2003. Old Words on War Stirring a New Dispute at Berkeley By DEAN E. MURPHY]:``...Robert M. Price, the associate vice chancellor for research, said, "It wasn't from nowhere that these quotes randomly happened to fall on the page." Dr. Falk "was making a political point, and that is inappropriate in an official university solicitation," he said...''

-------

Is it worth explaining?

The underlying issue that must worry dear VC Price is for the institution's dependence on corporate sponsors and federal grants and contracts. UCB manages both LBL and Livermore for DoE, those wonderful science wizards who invented both nuclear war and weapons of mass destruction---and provided tons of social, political, economic, and anthropological data from around the globe to every security agency in the US government for managing fifty years of US imperial containment. Then after the great fall of the cold war, UCB getting into the spirit of the new era forging cannon into plowshares so to speak, readjusted their research goals to bring us the neoliberal corporatization prospectus for all human food, health, and reproduction---bio-tech for short. I sure would like to be on the UN inspection team if they ever got to pick through Price's files.

So, you can see why Price who administers millions in corporate and federal contracts for mass death and total global enslavement was worried over the inappropriate political implications that might be implied by what some moth eaten archivist begging for hand outs from gray haired peacniks would put on her bulk mail donation blurb. Why it was just beyond the pale.
