Reading a book, "Sociology after Bosnia and Kosovo, " which uses phenomenology ala Schutz, Erving Goffman on perception mngmnt, Donna Haraway and Kenneth Burke, to elecidate the commingling complicities of Western governments, publics and the Serbs, Croats, Kosovars and Bosniaks, in the slaughters of the 90's. If the habitual, binary partisan solidarizing w/oppressive, anti-systemic regimes under the illusion one is standing with their civilian victims, leads to proposals like this, which strikes me as a compound of Christian pacifist masochism and blackmail that in it's death wish demands that which it pretends to want to prevent, the irrelevence of such gestures to being strategic contributions to the anti- war cause should condemn such plans. But, they won't since the political forces pushing such apolititical Grand Refusals prefer martydom operations, as they are called in Palestine.

"Without knowing that we knew nothing, we went on talking without listening to
each other. Sometimes we flattered and praised each other, understanding that
we would be flattered and praised in return. Other times we abused and shouted
at each other, as if we were in a madhouse." -Tolstoy
