BTW one of the weird things about post-Soviet Russian pop culture is this blossoming of gay culture. They're all over the place.

In the Soviet era, there were lote of gay jokes about Georgian men: "Two Georgians go into the banya. In addition to the main thing, they also washed!" That sort of thing. Because the proportion of men to women in Georgia was very high. (Why? Fathers of sons are highly valued in Gorgian culture, whereas daughters are worth squat, so lots of abortions of daughters.)

And, no, Pugliese, gays were not locked up in the Brezhnev era.
