You know, I really hate this left wing reverse privilege thing, "yous hould feel bad because you're lucky, workers in Detroit have much less than you do." No shit they do, that's in part why we are socialists. But it makes me mad, not guilty. they don't have less than I do because I wear a nice suit, or even because I get paid gobs of money for defending corporate interests. they have less than I do because the bosses own and control the means of production, and my wearing jeans and a T-shirt to work is not going to change that, hmm?

And just because I like dressing doesn't mean that I "devalue," subtly or otherwise, people who dress differently. Mi espouza, a former tekkie, now am ed grad student, dresses accordingly, in jeans and t-shirt, no makeup. It's just different. She is sort of amused by the fact that I'm clotheshorse, and I find other pleasures in her company than that of enjoying couture. In general, when I say, I like X, it doesn't mean, you suck if you don't. I love jazz. Doug hates it, it sounds like pointless noodling to him. I regret the fact that he misses out on America's great contribution to world culture, but I don't devalue, despise, or look down on him because of it. I just don't try to talk about jazz with him.

jks
