SUCCESS STORIES FROM THE GROUND: INTERNATIONAL ANTI-SWEATSHOP ORGANIZING

Come meet and welcome to New York international union leaders who have successfully organized sweatshops in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, who will share stories and a performance about their work and experiences! Hear from organizers who have won incredible organizing victories, working in solidarity with United Students Against Sweatshops and other allies in the global justice movement.
We will be joined by Ignacio Hernandez, Secretary General of FEDOTRAZONAS, the union in the Dominican Republic that has recently won a successful contract at the BJ&B factory. Also speaking will be members of the Workers' Theater, from Puebla, Mexico, who will be performing "King Kong de Atlixco". Workers at the Kukdong apparel factory in Mexico (now called MexMode) recently achieved a victory with the formation of the first independent labor union in the country's maquiladora industry. The Workers' Theater, composed of workers from that factory, is touring the U.S. to increase understanding of working conditions in Mexico and build relationships between U.S. and Mexican unions and cultural workers.
