This is quite extraordinary. Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq are hardly examples of democracy ­ and there is little sign that our interventions there have made that outcome more likely. So there is a very, very powerful tu quoque argument someone could levy against you here, even before we start talking about those places that were invaded so as to prevent their democraticization.

This is an important point, but it hardly bolsters the interventionist argument. Unless you were to say that such is our imperialist entanglement in Africa that we might as well send in troops.
