I'll have to check this out of the SF State library, do not know if it supercedes the three vols. by Robert C. Tucker.

The author, Daniel Rancour-Laferriere, is on the editorial board of a journal w/ Otto Kernberg and Jean Luc-Nancy, two heavyweights.

An ex-lover way into Lacan and Maria Callas, who has met Kernberg said he was an arrogrant prick. But, hey what's new.

Same author has a study of Gogol, " a UCB scholar, Simon Karlinsky, wrote a study a way back on him, said he was homosexual. "The Sexual Labyrinth of Nikolai Gogol." "A brilliant new biography that will long be prized for its illuminating psychological insights into Gogol's actions, its informative readings of his fiction and drama, and its own stylistic grace and vivacity."--Edmund White, Washington Post Book World

The publisher, Ardis, publishes lots of translations and studies of Russian fiction.Edward Mellen Press is a very interesting press, as well. http://www.mellenpress.com/emp/index.cfm http://www.ardisbooks.com/default.asp http://www.psychomedia.it/jep/number12 13/contributors.htm
