Actually, I'm coming to the conclusion that Hitchens is more like James Burnham than Chambers who, while solid in his conversion to conservatism, kept a critical mind and used it on his new comrades. Burnham did too, but it was based less on lingering self-doubt or inner-criticism and more on bombast and the belief that he was right all the time. Hitch is more in Burnham's camp -- whether he'll come out in favor of nuking someone (as Burnham did) is anybody's guess, but at this point anything's possible.
