Most people tend to believe that the life they have been enculturated into is the "good life"; that's not unique to commie residents of NYC. This is almost inevitable, because the values we use to judge something "good" depend on our socialization, not some universal rational standards. (Unless you're a hypereducated philosopher/lawyer who has spent mountains of time pondering moral philosophy texts.)
