Because it's "intolerant." And this is, if ever there was, a case where Zizek's question is relevant: Tolerance for whom to do what? Their faith is obviously not a private affair: they're trying to remake the world in their image. Veto school science curriculums, make birth compulsory for pregnant women, mandating collective affirmations of faith, block gay marriages, etc -- and those are the moderates.

Calls to respect their beliefs obscures a good deal of this. Yeah, Shrub and Ronzo don't buy evolution, but it's more than that: Shrub's pappy said he didn't think atheists should be citizens, and Lieberman scolds that we have "no freedom from religion."

I'd think people who know the mind of God, speak the word of God, and who's actions are God's will would be a little less insecure.
