The Washington-Moscow rapprochement was about 1) Moscow basically using the US as proxies to wipe out the Taliban and 2) trade. No. 1 is taken care of, No. 2 hasn't materialized.Now that the Chechens are on the terrorist list, there's not much point anymore in allying with the States.
Europe is much more important to Russia than the US. They buy its gas.
Interestingly, splitting Europe and the US is long-standing Soviet strategy.
