Podhortez's main note, apart from mindless groveling before the flag, is
resenting or envying (the same?) his intellectual and artistic betters. This
was very much the case with Ginsberg, and I've no doubt that Poddy thought
more about Ginzy than the reverse (indeed, in later years, Ginsberg often
dismissed Poddy with a wave of the hand, or referred to him as a
"Professional Jewish Editor"). That the Pod could accuse the author of a
poem like "America" of "anti-Americanism" (whatever that is) tells you all
you need to know about his tin ear and jaundiced eye. Hell, his son is
sharper, in media terms, than he -- the ultimate in damnation, if not
embarrassment.
