What is more, one of the "bad guys" (played by a French actor Lambert Wilson) in the movie -- named Merovingian (!) -- speaks English with a French accent, says that he relishes cursing in French, and displays his love of womanizing.
Is this a "freedom" flick or what?

definately not. the movie was probably done well before the whole USA/France/Iraq stuff happened.
also, there's one scene where a certain someone describes humanity's tendency to commit atrocities against other humans- and an image of none other than george w. bush is visible along with images of hitler, killings, bombings, etc...
the wachowskis are into Baudrillard, though, maybe it has something to do with that...
