Yeah, but I don't think there WAS an attempt to eliminate those peoples.
(Though I'm no Stalin scholar.) Stalin could have had them all shot if he
had wanted to. Instead, the Chechens lived in Kazakhstan for 12 years.
Stalin himself is usually refered to as a Georgian, but he was actually a
Georgian North Ossetian, by the way.
