Observers of Left Business in the NYC area may be interested in hearing former Wall Street Journal columnist "Uncle Alex" Cockburn speak at the Judson Memorial Church, at 55 Washington Square/Thompson Street, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 25. "Uncle Alex" will be appearing on a panel with long-time anti-war Movement writer-activist Lenni Brenner and Alisha Klein, an Anti-Zionist veteran of the Israeli Army, to discuss the topic "Is Anti-Zionism Anti-Semitic?" Admission is free. The event is also a memorial for recently-deceased Columbia University Professor Edward Said.

Ironically, "Uncle Alex"'s niece, Stephanie Flanders, used to work as a speechwriter and aide to Harvard University President Larry Summers when he was the Democratic Clinton Administration's Treasury Secretary in the late 1990s. As Harvard University president, Summers has opposed student demands that Harvard finally divest itself of its stockholdings in U.S. corporations that invest in Palestine/Israel. More recently, Stephanie Flanders--who was described as a member of the "Young Chiefs" British Establishment elite group in a 1999 London Guardian article--has apparently been reporting on economic affairs for the BBC's evening tv news show in the UK.

Perhaps this Tuesday, November 25, 2003 event might be a good place to sell extra copies of the Left Business Observer publication, even if WBAI isn't planning to broadcast "Uncle Alex"'s presentation live?
