I'm fully aware of Mills' work and the sordid details of COINTELPRO. But J.
Edgar Hoover's goons didn't crush the 1960s global rebellions; it took decades
of neoconservativism, Reaganomics, union-busting, and neoliberalism, as well a
virulent Right-wing populism which cannily exploited race, gender and identity
politics to do its evil deeds.
