According to one almanac's statistical definitions:

In 1930, only 11.6 % of the U.S. labor force was unionized.

In 1935, only 13.2% of the U.S. labor force was unionized.

In 1945, 35.5% of the U.S. labor force was unionized.

By 2000, however, only 13.5% of the U.S. labor force was still unionized.

The number figures are as follows: 3.4 million unionized U.S.workers in 1930 3.5 million unionized U.S. workers in 1935 14.3 million unionized U.S. workers in 1945 and 16.2 million unionized U.S. workers in 2000,(according to this particular almanac).

Speaking of the unionized labor force, the AFL-CIO's web site recently posted a news release which referred to the AFL-CIO's support for the National Endowment for Democracy. According to William Blum's Rogue State book: "In effect, the CIA has been laundering money through NED....The Endowment has four principal initial recipients of funds:...an affiliate of the AFL-CIO (such as the American Center for International Labor Solidarity);...From 1994 to 1996, NED awarded 15 grants, totaling more than $2,500,000, to the American Institute for Free Labor Development, an organization used by the CIA for decades to subvert progressive labor unions...The relationship between NED and AIFLD very well captures the CIA origins of NED..."
