That was Don Perata, a longtime liberal Party hack. (His campaign photos always have him w/ Teddy Kennedy) Perata, played hardball (hey, politics ain't beanbag, the saying goes) against us folks in the left Democrat, John George Democratic Club which gathered up the Jesse Jackson Democrats from the '88 campaign in Oakland/Berkeley. Keith Carson, who did win a later race, and has been on the Alameda County Bd. of Supes since, got tons o' trash thrown at him by Perata and his minions.

I'm resisting the calls to line up w/ Dean from DP friends. For many reasons which deserve a thread now or later.

McAuliffe is pushing hard for Wesley Clark, from the NYRB, http://www.nybooks.com/articles/16650, "Iraq: What Went Wrong, " By General Wesley K. Clark.

From the, "Vietnam was a 'mistake' and/or ,'we could have won with more troops, weaponry, a better, 'winning heats and minds, ' strategy...A chapter in this on Vietnam War historiography, "Censoring History: Citizenship and Memory in Japan, Germany and the United States. M. E. Sharpe, 2000, "contrasting radical (Marilyn B. Young) , liberal (Halberstam, Karnow) and conservative (Guenter Lewy, "America In Vietnam, " which tried to cast doubt on the Winter Soldier accts. of war crimes, and Mark Lane's book, Vietnam Veterans Against The War. "THE WINTER SOLDIER INVESTIGATION: An Inquiry Into American War Crimes, " Boston: Beacon (1972) , (you listening Yoshie?) by citing a NYTimes Neil Sheehan piece from '70.
