That's an artifact of your breaking it up into individual sentences, which are not large enough units to express what is good in Faulkner, or in any other novelist. As an exercise, it's rather like the web site which displays cropped photos of asses and elbows and asks people if they can tell the difference:

Just because most people make mistakes doesn't mean there's no difference between asses and elbows. Or that people are mistaken in adoring the one and disliking the other. It's purely a function of cropping. Remove enough context and you remove most of the meaning of things. Remove enough distinctive meaning from two different things and yes, you can make them look alike.

Give Faulkner fans a chapter of Faulkner, and a chapter of your machine translation, and they'll not only be able to tell the difference between them, they'll be able to explain to you what it was about the writing in the chapter they admire.
