I poked around and it's pretty clear that Howard Dean is 
definitely *not* related to the founder of Dean Witter, though 
he did work there. However, the following article, which 
describes Howard Dean as the fourth family member to head to 
Wall Street, mentions the first as having been Herbert 
Hollingshead Dean, a founder of Smith Barney. I can't find the
