I run into this sort of thing all the time talking to left audiences, and taking calls on "alternative" radio shows. And there's also the left affinity for various Wall Street permabears; on this list, for example, people cite the Prudent Bear. I've been writing about economics publicly since 1986, and I come across it all the time. I'll keep a tally from here on to prove my point.
