It was much more complicated than that. 1968 was the so-called student
revolt (because it was students who took it to the streets), but in
reality it was a push for a reform supported by many intellectuals and
party reformists. The purge was aimed at the reformists and
intellectuals, while anti-semitic overtones used by the Moczar faction
was really a rather minor side show.
