In Baltimore, inadequate public transportation is a major obstacle for many urban residents who do not have a car (about 40% of Baltimore population, according to one estimate) to get a job. Many jobs are in the suburbs where commuting by public transit can be a big problem. In all public meeting on transportation issues I attended, improving public transit is the most important citizen concern.
