I was reading an interview with Andrei Kalashnikov himself recently. He's in his 80s. He says he's glad he could serve the Fatherland, but that he wishes he could be remembered for having invented something "that peasants could use, like maybe a mower."
BTW the Kalashnkov brand is going on all kinds of stuff (butter, etc.) which should get him a lot of money. He never got anything on the gun.
