Dear Comrade,
You wrote:
"Boy aren't you clever with the subject line and the use of the word "qua" in a sentence! I bet you went to college! Which class did you take that taught you how to dismiss a person's argument without even listening to them?"
First of all, I would never presume to call myself "clever' in the company of those on this mailing list. Second, there is no excuse for being uneducated EXCEPT being formally educated. Finally, I have not dismissed your argument without listening. I have dismissed it *after* listening to it and many others like it.
Please note my line:
"For us on the left, [our knowledge of capitalist power] makes even the most common things - Chinese shoes at Wal-Mart - seem tragic. We see the violence and alienation inherent in the capitalist system METAPHORICALLY reproduced in its products."
You see capitalist relations metaphorically reproduced in capitalism's products but you have not thought rigorously about a post-revolution state.
You're a smart guy and we need you, so think more rigorously. Rather than rejecting what you don't like, learn how it works and how you can turn it to your purpose - which is my purpose also.
peace,
boddi
