Carrol, how old was the Dalai Lama when he left Tibet? Unless you actually believe in reincarnation - which I certainly don't and I assume you don't - it's tough to blame the current Dalai Lama for the ills of Tibetan feudal society. Here's an idea - why not figure our who, other than a relatively small number of celibate monks, were the actual economic powers in Tibetan society and see how much of the blame they share.

Or, better yet, why not leave the feudal past in the past and wake up to the fact that your beloved Red Mandarins in Beijing are no better than any other third world dictators.

This nonsense about the Dalai Lama is just predictable, cranky contrarianism. So the Dalai Lama is a politician and not a perfect being of enlightenment or whatever. Can any reasonable person be surprised by that? No, I think. Only leftists can be disappointed by something so obvious.
