You think so? Unlike Vietnam, Iraq offers the unelected global elite much in the way of riches and geopolitical advantage, and I cannot believe that BushCo went this far only to bag it once the waters got bloody. This is a long-term imperial project, and those behind it don't care how many people get chopped up in the process. Seth's Pew poll suggests a rise in public desire to bring the troops home, and perhaps that is the only counterforce that, in time, can exert the kind of pressure to alter this madness. But Americans, by and large, don't know anything about the Middle East or the history of Iraq, so any opposition will be largely based on wanting Our Kids out of harm's way.
