Hell, you have to figure that to a sizeable portion of the U.S. population (as well as the bunch of nut bars occupying the executive branch these years) we *DO* look like a bunch of freaks! We let the queers marry, smoke and may legalize dope, don't carry handguns, don't invoke god on every possible occasion, aren't engaged in a worldwide holy war on abortion, have no problem whatsoever laughing at ourselves, and so on.
And we're polite. I think one of the funniest scenes in 'Canadian Bacon' is near the end when John Candy and Rhea Perlman are pushing through a crowd at the base of the CN tower and the Canadians being pushed out of the way are saying 'Excuse me'. That and 'All I said was the beer sucks'.
Personally it makes me proud.
