The EU and East Asia are vastly more civilized than the US. By that, I mean they don't routinely bomb, blast and slaughter Third World countries, underwrite thugs to topple regional developmental states, or allow a gaggle of silicon punters and petro-fundamentalist freakozoids to hijack their governments. They're certainly not utopias, but they're much less violent societies than the US. This has less to do with capitalism than with the forces of resistance in those zones -- strong unions, powerful developmental states, etc.
