But Demme himself dismisses that element. When Marco goes to his scientist friend and shows him the implant, the scientist replies: "These are only theoretical." His comment refers not only to the implant, but also to the fiction(s) of conspiracy plots.

- Joseph writes back: he actually says, these are 'supposed' to be only theoretical - bthe is obviously looking an implant that is a realization of the prototypes he has seen. Later, when the Marco character tries to find him, his lab has been dismantled and he has disappeared. Demme does not dismiss 'that element', and he certainly did not do so in his interview on the movie that aired today on Terry Gross.
