On this point at least Cooper is simply ill-informed. Polls of Iraqi
Arabs this summer (before the torture revelations) found that Sadr was the
second most popular leader in Iraq (after Sistani), with 1/3 of the
population "strongly supporting" him and another third "somewhat
supporting" him, while support for the Governing Council was in single
digits. --CGE
