Hi, I am posting below the text form of a flyer I am distributing, defending WBAI producer Gary Null against management's summary dismissal. The workers' organization (chaired by Ken Nash <knash at igc.org>, Local Station Board <LSB at wbai.org> AND Pacifica Network Board <pnb at pacifica.org> MUST be made to defend Gary's (and the LISTNERS') right to due process and oppose his firing. It is unclear at the moment what they will do. They need to hear from you.

If you would like to receive this flyer as a formatted attachment, please reply to me directly at <mitchelcohen at mindspring.com>. You could be a great help in printing out the flyer and distributing it everywhere appropriate.

In addition, Station Manager Don Rojas and Program Director Bernard White -- who are responsible for this egregious violation of the "contract" -- will be hosting a Report to the Listener TODAY, Monday Dec. 6, at 3:00-5:00 pm: Listeners may call in at (212) 209-2900. Remember, the issue is not whether they like Gary Null or hate him, but whether they have the responsibility to afford due process as outlined in the contract.

Thanx, Mitchel

**************************************** Meet the New Boss, Same as the Old Boss Gary Null Summarily Fired by WBAI Management – Will Robert Knight and Bob Fass be next?

On the same day that cronies of WBAI’s management gained a majority of seats on the Local Station Board, Program Director Bernard White seized that moment to fire Gary Null and remove his show from the airwaves, believing that the new Justice & Unity majority on the Board would back him up.

Will they?

This depends on “We, the Listeners”, and responsible station staff.

I am writing this as an individual – one of thousands -- who has benefited personally from the information that Gary Null has put on the air for 26 years. I am not writing on behalf of any particular group.

I am outraged over this move by Bernard White, with the acquiescence of Station Manager Don Rojas.

· Will the Unpaid Staff Organizing Committee challenge Management’s summary dismissal of Gary Null without due process – a serious violation of the signed “contract”? Will USOC defend the workers it is supposed to represent? Or will it be a “company union,” paving the way for additional removals?

· Will the Local Station Board, which has the legal responsibility for evaluating Management, accept this action by the station’s management or defend the staff at the station and the interests of the Listeners?

· Will Management’s arbitrary action throw the station’s fundraising (let alone its willingness to confront the giant pharmaceutical corporations, as Gary Null has been bravely doing all these years) into further jeopardy, necessitating layoffs in the near future?

If you disagree with these actions by Station management; if you are a defender of due process and workers’ rights; and if you appreciate the information Gary Null has provided and the tenacity it takes to stand up to the corporate interests and privatizers year after year who are seeking to make inroads at the station, please:

1) Let management of the station AND the Pacifica National Board know how you feel about these actions;

2) Come to the next Local Station Board meeting on Wednesday, December 15, 6:30 pm;

3) Contact me directly, and we’ll develop ways to defend Gary Null and other workers, and advance the Listeners’ and Progressive Staff’s interests at WBAI.

Please e-mail me at mitchelcohen at mindspring.com, or call: (718) 512-5198.

DENOUNCE THE CREEPING CORPORATIZATION OF WBAI.

DEFEND GARY NULL, ROBERT KNIGHT, AND THE RIGHTS OF ALL WORKERS AND STAFF.

DEMAND A RESPONSIBLE MANAGEMENT THAT PROTECTS THE RIGHTS OF LISTENERS.
