moreover, this war seems very likely to backfire even from Michael' point of view: arab nationalism born exactly as a reaction to western imperialism, and iraqis are very aware of this aspect of their political history. In this sense, they do not seem likely to play like puppets one against the other according the will of US, whoever will gain the power there. Anyway, the Vietnam syndrome helped to keep relatively quiet the US for a couple of decades, so I would hope a similar effect for this experience (that would be the only possible positive effect for everybody).
