Or, the excellent little pamphlet "Two Pages from Roman History" by the American socialist Daniel De Leon, makes some interesting points too. Different from my points as I believe the analogies De Leon draws between the class basis of Roman society and the class basis of modern capitalism are not exactly accurate. But some interesting observations nonetheless. (Especially for those of you who agree with De Leon that any such thing as a "middle class" exists under late capitalism.)
