Lada Niva 4X4s have a cult following here, and not in the same way that the Trabant has in Germany, i.e. Lada make great offroad vehicles. I imagine they were probably a military design (?), but they a fine consumer product nevertheless.

CB: One likeable quality you all might have sensed was that they weren't consumer goods, so they didn't have planned obsolescence "in" them.
