"Salvador's dissidents tried to work within the system. But with US support, the government made that impossible, using repeated electoral fraud and murdering hundreds of protesters and strikers. In 1980, the dissidents took to the gun, and civil war. Washington responded immediately.
"2004 Democratic Party presidential candidate John Kerry, however, voted to provide military aid to the Salvadoran oligarchy's repressive government in October, 1989. The BOSTON GLOBE, for instance, reported in its October 17, 1989 issue that:
"Activists are protesting Senator John F. Kerry's vote in favor of aid to El Salvador with few conditions, saying he has let them down...Labor and religious activists staged a rally on Oct.16, 1989 at Senator John Kerry's Boston office to denounce his vote for military aid to El Salvador."
In its November 18, 1989 issue, the BOSTON GLOBE also reported that:
"About 400 people jammed Massachusetts Senator John Kerry's office to protest his past support of U.S. military aid to El Salvador. Six priests and two civilians were slain there on Nov. 16, 1989."
In 1994, John Kerry also introduced an amendment to the U.S. Department of Defense Authorization bill which exempted the U.S. government from liability if another government "accidentally" destroyed an innocent aircraft on the basis of radar information from U.S. military sources.
