Long ago I read a piece by Ned Rorem in a Metropolitan Opera program 
that proclaimed, "There is nothing funny about the laughter of 
Germans."

I guess the Nazi thing makes it ok to make rude generalizations about 
Germans that one would be too embarrassed to make about anyone else.
