Well yes, Steve, as the video clip Dennis found of Tariq speaking in a park during that Charlotte Kates NJ Solidarity conference on Palestine that ANSWER hegemonized that was so divisive that Yoshie asnd Co. decided to have another broader one in Ohio, was beneath Tariq.

But, from the time I read his interview w/ John Lennon in the early 70's that Ramparts reprinted here ("John: The Radical Beatle, " if memory serves), reading his autobiography, "Street Fighting Years, " which has great stories about Regis Debray (on which, btw, Jeffrey Mehlman has a great piece in the latest Bookforum) and many others, and editing and excellent anthology, "The Stalinist Legacy, " for Penguin, re-issued by Lynne Riener pubs., and for NOT being reluctant to say the Saddam Hussein and the Ba'athists were always enemies of the Left, if you want to distort my pov on Tariq, that has these caveats, well...go ahead I guess. As Reagan said facts are stupid things ;-(
